United For ALICE: ALICE in the Crosscurrents Report

ALICE in the Crosscurrents: COVID and Financial Hardshipin Arkansas is brought to you by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation in partnership with United For ALICE, a driver of innovative research and action around financial hardship for ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households. With a commitment to racial and economic justice, United For ALICE and the Winthrop Rockfeller Foundation share this work with United Ways, foundations, government, corporations, and other nonprofits to inform policy and promote positive change for ALICE households. The grassroots ALICE movement, developed by United Way of Northern New Jersey, has spread to 27 states and the District of Columbia.

From 2017 through 2021, Arkansas households unable to afford the basics grew to 551,925 — nearly half of the state’s population. That’s a 6% increase from 2017 and a 1% increase from 2019 to 2021.
